What is Scrip?
Scrip is substitute money. It can be a paper certificate or a gift
card. The stores you visit are used to
receiving these certificates and you will not usually have trouble redeeming
them. These are the same certificates
that you would buy at the store.
The basic concept behind scrip:
·
The retailers sell the certificates to the school
at a discount (For example, a $50 Woodman’s card costs us $47.50)
·
Families buy the certificates at full face value
and redeem them for full face value (The
$50 Woodman’s card costs you $50 and is worth $50)
·
St. James School gets the difference as revenue
What’s the catch?
The catch - if there is one - is that you have to plan your purchases a
little bit. That’s it! Orders are
placed by sending in your blue envelope on Monday mornings with your
student. Orders are filled on Thursday
nights and distributed back to your student on Fridays. We also offer cash and carry on Friday
afternoons. If you forgot to place an
order on Monday and you need your scrip money, you can pick out and purchase
directly from what we have in stock.
